The Black Swamp Arts Council announced the winners of this year’s Invitational High School Art Show at an awards ceremony held Feb. 25.
Winners were:
Best of Show – “Entropy,” a drawing by Riley Schultz, Bryan; Outstanding Painting – “Burano,” by Isabella Modanese, Defiance; Outstanding Drawing – “Prazsky Orloj,” by Kennedy Dick, Bryan; Outstanding Photography – “Contorted,” by Claire Hurt, and “Human Nature,” by Katie Mock, both of Bryan; Outstanding Mixed Media, “Music For My Eyes,” by Isabella Summers, Pike-Delta-York; Outstanding 3D – “Shillelagh,” by Tyler Jones, Bryan; Outstanding Printmaking, “Sunflower,” by Caitlyn Lucas, Bryan.
Honorable mentions went to: “The Artist,” a painting by Reagan Williams of Defiance; “Tribute to Whitney Houston,” a drawing by Audra Rupp of Stryker; “Assiduous Soul,” photography by Mallory Riegsecker of Pettisville; “Poaching,” printmaking by Brianna Andrews of Wauseon; “Jupiter Set,” ceramics by David Rummel of Bryan; “Beishang,” a painting by Emily Knight of Bryan.
One hundred pieces of artwork were displayed Feb. 15-25 in the atrium at Northwest State Community College. Participating school districts included Archbold, Bryan, Defiance, Evergreen, Hilltop, Montpelier, Pettisville, Pike-Delta-York, Stryker, and Wauseon.
Judges included Kaitlin Helberg, Napoleon High School art teacher and regional director for Region 5 of the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition; Kathy Funderburg, a retired graphic designer and current adjunct professor at Defiance College; and Thomas Born, a Defiance High School art teacherand Photography and Art Appreciation teacher at Defiance College and NSCC.
