Pettisville held just a 2-0 halftime lead, but went on an offensive onslaught in the first 15 minutes of half number two with four goals, culminating in an 8-1 win at Wauseon Thursday.
The Blackbirds were led by Detric Yoder who finished with a hat trick, and the junior got them on the board first with a goal at the 23:53 mark of the first half.
Then, with 12:06 left in the half, Connor Wyse trickled a shot past Wauseon goalkeeper Easton Delgado to make it 2-0.
Pettisville came out strong in the second half as Yoder scored 3:54 in, extending their lead at 3-0. He then used a centering pass from Eli Grieser to push the Blackbird lead to 4-0, 37 seconds later.
Grieser and Justin Rupp each tacked on goals over the next few minutes which made it 6-0 with still 25 minutes left in the contest.
Wauseon’s Jacob Hageman had a quality look from the left side at the 22:43 mark but his shot missed the mark. The Birds then had Canidate Vickery’s shot make its way into the net off a Wauseon defender for a 7-0 lead with 20:47 left.
Mitchell Avina converted a penalty kick for Pettisville with 10:56 remaining to complete the scoring for the Blackbirds. After intercepting a Pettisville goal-kick, Chase Soltis fired a shot into the back of the net to get the Indians on the board with just under four minutes left.
Wauseon then fell on the road at Otsego Saturday 4-0. They are back in action today at 5 p.m. at Liberty Center.
