SWANTON – The Delta golf team continued their upward progression from the beginning of the season by finishing second to Liberty Center in a quad match that also included Pettisville and Holgate at White Pines Golf Course on Thursday. Delta totaled a 187, 16 shots behind Liberty Center’s 171, but 21 strokes ahead of Pettisville’s 208 and 25 shots in front of Holgate’s 212.
“We’re gradually getting better,” said Panther coach Jon Mignin. “It’s a slow process but at the same time we are getting better.”
The battle between Delta and LC for first place was actually very close when the scores of each team’s top three golfers were tabulated. The Panthers trailed by only three strokes but the Tigers’ fourth golfer outscored Delta’s fourth by 13 to wrap up the match.
“We had three really good scores but our fourth score we have to work on,” commented Mignin.
Jay Vann led the Panthers with a score of 40. Michael Thomas fired a 45 with Chase Sandusky close behind with a 46 and Tim Sonick closed out the team’s scoring by shooting a 56. Freshmen Brady Wymer and Cole Mattin carded a 58 and a 63 respectively.
Pettisville’s top golfer on the day was Matt Krill who shot a 50. Evan King came in at 50 while Austin Horning had a 54 and Andrew Canada finished with a 57.
LC’s Tyler Lapinski captured medalist honors with a 39.
