Fayette baseball coach Matt Maginn is hoping a strong core of returning players and a decent size roster will help them erase the memory of last year’s 1-15 season.
“(We) look to improve on a one win season and turn the close losses into wins,” he said.
The Eagles have a total of 16 players on the team, including returning letter winners Travis Wagner (honorable mention All-BBC), Drake Bowditch, Karrsen Schaffner, Max Baker and Porter Maginn.
Newcomers are Noah Bineman, Gabe Maginn, Tanner Lemely, Stephen Mungia, Troy DeCant, Clayton Pheils, Trevor McClain, Grant Reinking, Tre Kope, Diago Nieto and Caleb Garrett.
They have limited pitching amongst their returning players, which is a weakness according to coach Maginn. They also have a bevy of first year players to make the transition to this season much harder.
The Eagles will be looking to replace the production left behind by departed letter winners Joel Smith and Casen Burkholder who were each honorable mention all-league, as well as Grant Schaffner and Isaiah Garrett.
Matt Maginn sees a pair of Buckeye Border Conference teams ahead of the others when it comes to the league race.
“Stryker and Hilltop will be the two teams to be at the top with the returning players they will have,” he said.
