Swanton head boys basketball coach Matt Smith announced Monday that he will be stepping down from his position after nine seasons.
“I am very proud of what we have built at Swanton,” said Smith in a statement. “I have been fortunate in the past few years to have seen a level of success that had been missing for years. I am grateful for the many big wins, a league championship, three straight sectional championships, a 20 win season, and many individual accomplishments to name a few.”
The Bulldogs just finished up their season Thursday with a 58-42 loss to Eastwood in the district semifinal.
Smith is very thankful of his supporters in the Swanton community.
“I want to thank my family, all of the players, coaches, parents, and community members who have supported me over the years,” he said. “I want to take some time off and focus on my job as Swanton Middle School Principal. At some point I am sure I will coach again down the road.”
