Athletic bunch back for Pettisville soccer

While Pettisville soccer coach Richard Nyce admits this will be a rebuilding year for his team, don’t expect a lackluster effort from the Blackbirds.

“I expect results similar to last year,” explained Nyce on his expectations for his team. “The outlook for several years to come is very good.”

Coach Nyce also states that he likes the athleticism of his team, adding that their skill level is “higher than usual for us.”

The major weakness for the Blackbirds, however, is the loss of 10 letter winners. “We will be very young with only two returning seniors,” said Nyce.

“Overall as a team, we will be a bit small.”

Gone from last year’s squad are Mikala Avina, Jordan Bontrager, Dustin Nofziger, Tate Kauffman, Josh Liechty, Nick Brink, Jakob Waidelich, Ethan Brakefield, Eli King and Matt Hulbert.

The Blackbirds finished 6-8-4 in 2014, falling in the sectional final to Ottawa Hills.

Returning from that team are Aaron Bontrager, Connor Wyse, Levi Nofziger, Gabe Beck, Stuart Yoder and Andrew Sauder.

Pettisville begins its season by hosting Lake on Friday at 5 p.m.
