STRYKER – Steve Brown’s Stryker Panthers held Delta without a field goal for 12:37 in the first half, then had to withstand a second half rally before finally subduing the Delta Panthers 45-37 at home Tuesday night.

Maddie Mattimore’s basket off the opening tip five seconds into the game put Delta up early, but that would be the last basket for Ryan Ripke’s team until the 3:18 mark of the second quarter when Mary Miller scored on an offensive rebound.

In between it was Stryker getting the best of the boards on the offensive end, including twice in the first quarter, scoring on third try putbacks by Anna Stuckey and Kaitlyn Wonders.

It was Haley Doehrmann doing the damage in the second stanza, scoring on a fastbreak and on a pair of right wing triples to boost Stryker to a 18-8 halftime lead.

Stryker’s lead expanded to 13 at 33-20 with 1:19 left in the third on a Taylor Haines three-ball before Delta began to cut into the lead.

Abby Freeman knocked down a shot from long range and Hayley Callahan scored off the glass at the buzzer to make it 33-25 heading into the fourth.

Miller also hit a rebound basket and Freeman went 2 for 2 from the line to get Delta within four with 6:58 left.

Madi Myers’ steal and score, along with a Doehrmann free throw got Stryker back up 36-29.

Freeman hit another pair from the line and Mattimore’s foul line jumper sliced the Stryker lead to 36-33 with 2:23 to go, but Doehrmann scored 10 seconds later in transition against the Delta press, and Stryker scored their last seven points on a series of trips to the line to close it out.

Freeman’s 17 points led Delta, while Doehrmann and Haines each had 13 for Stryker.

Delta (12-9) plays at Archbold Thursday while Stryker goes up against Fayette.
