The Wauseon diving team should have another successful season with four returning letter winners and only one gone from last year’s team.
“They have a lot experience and are eager to beat the local competition,” said diving coach Tom Burkholder of his team.
Back for the Indians are Patience Bachman, a three-time state qualifier, All-Ohio and all-district performer; Alexys Carteaux, a two-time all-district performer; Audry Lane, a district qualifier; and Tony Schweinhagen, a state qualifier and two-time all-district performer for the boys team.
The only letter winner they lose is Amanda Stutzman.
Coach Burkholder likes the attitude of his team heading into the new season.
“Older divers are eager to leave on a high note,” he said. “Experienced divers want to pass their legacy to the younger divers.”
Promising newcomers for the Indians are Kennedy Nation and Megan Carroll.
“We will be counting on our young divers to step up and contribute more than we have in the past,” said Burkholder. “They are excited to help out.”
Wauseon swimming and diving opens their season with a home meet against Ayersville on Nov. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
