Liberty Center shuts down Evergreen

LIBERTY CENTER – Evergreen drove inside the Liberty Center 30 four times but was turned away each time and the Tigers used a defensive score and a pair of big plays to turn back the Vikings, 44-0, to go to 4-1 on the season Friday night.

The Tigers only loss was to Patrick Henry the previous week, 22-14.

Jarrett Krugh’s short pass to North West capped a time consuming first quarter drive to put the Tigers on top.

From there, Zack Carpenter scored from the 2 and the 40 to boost the Tigers lead to 21-0 in the second quarter.

Hunter Van Wert gave the Vikings a spark when his 42 yard sprint got Evergreen deep into Tiger territory. However, the LC defense stiffened and stopped the Viking threat.

Evergreen again drove behind the running of Tyler Noe and a couple of Jack Etue passes but a drop of a sure touchdown, and an interception halted that threat.

LC added on when Christian Chambers scored from the 20 after that, then Austin Like picked off a Viking pass and ran 30 yards for a score.

Chambers burst through a hole for a 60 yard third quarter score for the last LC touchdown.

For the game the Tigers had 387 yards offense, including 151 on the ground from Chambers and 76 from Carpenter.

Evergreen ran for 111 as Noe had 57 and Van Wert 34.

Etue and Noe combined for 10 of 27 passing for 78 yards but also threw four interceptions.

Evergreen (0-5) hosts Swanton this week while the Tigers play Bryan.
