Wauseon limited Delta to less than 200 yards of total offense to peg their first win of the season, a 28-14 home victory over the Panthers Friday.
The Indians scored first in the opening quarter on a one-yard touchdown from Junior Martinez with 7:20 left.
Quarterback Brendan Wilson added to that lead in the second quarter with a nine yard rushing score and Andrew Gray’s extra point put the difference at 14-0.
Delta then responded as Jason Beverly picked off a Wilson pass and returned it for a TD with 8:32 left in the half. The Panther extra point was blocked and the score sat at 14-6.
Then, with 1:23 left, Wilson punched it in from a yard out to extend their lead to 21-6 at the break.
Martinez’ two yard score with 1:33 left in the third quarter made it 28-6 after three.
Delta sliced that advantage in half with 10:30 left in the fourth as Jesse Beverly finished off a drive with a four-yard run to equal the final tally.
Martinez and Wilson led the Wauseon rushing attack as Martinez finished with 72 yards on 15 carries and two TDs, and Wilson had 17 for 60 and two TDs as well.
Jesse Beverly had 118 yards on 19 carries and a TD for Delta.
Wauseon (1-3, 1-0 NWOAL) is on the road at rival Archbold this week. Delta (1-3, 0-1 NWOAL) is back home Friday when they face Patrick Henry who is undefeated.
