Wauseon boys cross country first at Columbus Grove Invitational


Delta boys, Wauseon girls place 12th

COLUMBUS GROVE – The Wauseon cross country team, led by Kyle Vernot who took first individually, won the boys large schools race with a score of 49 Saturday at the Columbus Grove Invitational. The Delta boys took 12th with a score of 358.

Vernot finished first with a time of 16:27.64. Also finishing in the top ten for the Indians were Aaron Beck and Christian Suarez. Beck was eighth with a time of 17:08.08, while Suarez took ninth with a time of 17:12.18.

Josh Lowry took 15th with a time of 17:16.87, and Michael Cheezan came in behind him with a time of 17:16.92.

Maverick Wright finished fifth for Delta, coming in at a clip of 16:51.44.

Fayette competed in the race amongst smaller schools, finishing 15th out of 22 competing teams. Their best runner was Clayton Pheils who placed 38th with a time of 18:05.93.

The Wauseon girls took 12th out of 18 teams in the large schools race. They had a pair of runners in the top 50 as Hannah Richer (21:06.81) took 28th and Brooke Schuette (21:59.44) came in at 44th.

Jillian Figgins (22:43.74) took 35th for Fayette in the girls small schools race, while teammate Kim Gorner (23:04.28) placed in the 44th position.
