The Evergreen girls soccer team received a rough welcome to the Northwest Ohio Athletic League. The new squad was tasked with facing the defending league champions in game number one on Thursday.
Swanton scored early and often as they dispatched the Vikings 9-0 to move to 1-0 in the NWOAL.
Haley Nelson got things started, scoring with an assist from Tonya Timpe. Nelson added another goal to make it 2-0.
Kaitlyn Anderson then got into the act with a goal to make it 3-0 Swanton. Bridget Harlett assisted on the score.
After hitting a shot off the crossbar, Harlett later found the net, with an assist from Marisa Long for a 4-0 Swanton advantage. Long then tallied a pair of goals, one with an assist from Gaby Kosier, to push the Swanton lead to 6-0.
Kosier finished the scoring for the first half, as she found the net with an assist from Jessica Bryant. The goal gave Swanton a 7-0 advantage at the half.
The Bulldogs added two more goals in the second half to finish off the contest. Harlett and Cicely Sanchez each scored to make it a 9-0 final.
Amber Torres didn’t have a busy night in the net, but had three saves for the Bulldogs to record the shutout.
The Bulldogs (1-1-1) tied a strong Ottawa-Glandorf squad on Monday 1-1. Evergreen (0-2) fell to Paulding 6-3 on Saturday.
Swanton will host Woodmore on Saturday at 11 a.m. Evergreen is at Delta in another NWOAL matchup on Tuesday.
