Archbold duo, Pettisville team make it out of sectional golf

TOLEDO — The Fulton County area saw some strong performances but could only manage a pair of individual qualifiers out of the Division II boys sectional golf tournament held at Heatherdowns Country Club in Toledo Thursday.

Those spots went to Cahle Roth and Luke Rosebrook of Archbold, each tying for first and shooting a 77 for the tournament.

Qualifying as a team were Ottawa Hills who finished first with a 330 team total, Genoa who was runner-up with a 331, and Bryan taking third at 338.

Swanton came in at fourth with a 347, and although Archbold had a 347 as well, the Bulldogs took the higher placement thanks to a better fifth golfer score. Wauseon was seventh with a 358.

Swanton was led by Mazin Rukieh’s 84. Lucas Bloom added an 87, while Ryan O’Shea and Adam Lemon each finished with an 88.

Other scorers for Archbold were Cade Miller at 89 and Charlie Jones 104. Wauseon’s top four were Jackson Gleckler who shot an 80 and tied for fifth, Mykale Schneider who was 13th with an 82, Carter Stuckey 97 and Zach Puehler 99.

Evergreen’s best was Adam Schmidt who shot a 98, while Slade Young of Delta carded a 99.

The Vikings finished with a 440 team total and the Panthers had a 446.

Blackbirds moving on

The boys golf team from Pettisville took second behind first place Montpelier at the Division III sectional tournament at Ironwood Thursday. For their efforts, the Blackbirds now advance to the upcoming district competition at Stone Ridge Golf Course in Bowling Green this Thursday.

Qualifying teams were Montpelier, who collectively shot a 321, Pettisville with a 348, and Fairview at 360.

Top finishers for Pettisville were Jack Leppelmeier who was alone in third and shot a 79, Blayn Meck (T-6th) with an 82, Creighton Aeschliman (15th) 90 and Samuel Myers 97.

The team from Fayette shot a 472 for an 11th place finish. They were led by Wyatt Mitchell who placed 16th with a 91. The Eagles also had Carter Lavinder register a 113, and Dane Andrews and Zachary Oehlers each finished with a 134.
