Northwood’s Gage Reed threw an opening game three-hitter, then the Rangers scored 13 runs in the first two innings in the nightcap to take a pair from Delta, 12-0 and 16-2 on Saturday in baseball.
The Panthers are still looking for their first win of the season.
Reed struck out eight in the first game and walked three.
Northwood got the only run they needed in the first on Nolan Wagner’s run-scoring double into the left field corner off Panther starter Landon Griesinger.
Four consecutive hits by Nathan Huber, Kaleb Brossia, Kaden Cluckey and AJ Cruz in the second spelled the end of the day for Griesinger as the Rangers plated two more runs.
The Rangers scored nine more off reliever Brady Morr — six of which were earned — as every Ranger either had a hit or scored a run.
Joel Arroyo-Sierra had two hits for the Panthers.
In the nightcap, three Panther first inning errors along with run-scoring hits from Mason Smith, Sean Kovacs, Huber and Brian Hollabaugh put the Rangers up 8-0 against Aaden Koder.
Reed’s two-run single was the big blow in a five-run second against Maverick Mercer to make it 13-0.
Delta got a run in the third on Morr’s single, a hit batter, force play and Arroyo-Sierra’s RBI single but lost a chance to get more on a baserunning blunder on a wide throw.
The Panthers also scored in the fourth thanks to Dylan Stricker’s single, a ground out and Luke Schlatter’s base hit.
Delta hosts Fairview Tuesday.
