Evergreen softball spotted Patrick Henry an early 3-0 lead, then came back with a vengeance, scoring six times in the home half of the second and went on to beat the Patriots 6-4 Monday. The victory kept them in contact of NWOAL leaders Bryan and Archbold as the Vikings have just one league loss on the season.

Alison Imbrock’s RBI single in the first put Patrick Henry on top, then run scoring singles from Erin Breece and Tayah Schulze extended the lead to 3-0 after the top of the second.

However, Brittany werner, Andrea Smithmyer and Jamie VanLoocke opened the bottom of the second with consecutive base hits to load the bases.

Becca Jankowiak and Rachael Noe each followed with run producing hits to slice the PH lead to 3-2.

Eden Eisel followed with a drive to left for a two-run double to give Evergreen the lead. Mikayla Ball duplicated Eisel’s hit with a ringing double that brought home two more to cap the six-run frame.

Breece’s RBI double in the fourth got the Patriots within 6-4, but Noe ripped through the fifth, sixth and seventh without allowing another PH hitter to reach base in recording the victory in the circle.

“Overall we are improving as a team and nearing our peak,” said Viking coach Todd Momany. “Our confidence has never been higher and we are ready to finish strong and compete for a NWOAL title and make a run in the tournament.

“I’m really proud of the way our girls are coming together and growing as a team.”

The Vikings are now 3-1 in the NWOAL, a game behind Bryan and Archbold.

Evergreen returns to league play on Thursday against Delta.
