Evergreen has a new football coach to replace Aaron Schmidt who stepped down after the 2021 campaign. The Vikings will be going with Evan Karchner to lead the program, and he was approved at a school board meeting Monday.

Karchner is a 2012 graduate of Maumee High School where he was a two-time All-Ohio linebacker.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank Evergreen for giving me the opportunity to be their head football coach and to join this community. I’m excited for the future of this program and to be a strong leader for our student-athletes,” Karchner said in a Twitter post Tuesday night.

Previous coaching experience for Karchner includes time at Wake Forest University, Bowling Green State University, Youngstown State, MacArthur High School in Texas, and most recently for two seasons as an assistant at Eastwood High School.
