The Archbold girls basketball team will look to have another winning season this year on the back of seven returning letter winners.
“We should be competitive with the amount of experience returning,” said head coach Brian Ziegler.
The Blue Streaks finished last season at 12-11 and they will try to increase that win total in 2021-22.
Their leading returnee is Addi Ziegler who averaged 9.5 points per game (ppg) a season ago. Ziegler was honorable mention All-Northwest Ohio Athletic League and in District 7.
They also get back Karsyn Hostetler (honorable mention all-league, District 7) who averaged 6.3 ppg in 2020-21. Harley Phillips (6.2 ppg), Addison Moyer (4.6 ppg), Leah McQuade (3.4 ppg), Sophie Rupp and Alivia Rodriguez return as well.
A newcomer for the Streaks is Meg Mello.
“Eight players returning with a lot of experience from last season,” Coach Ziegler said on the main strength for his team.
A lack of height is a weakness for the Streaks according to Ziegler.
Another challenge will be replacing their leading scorer from last year. Gone is Kylie Sauder who averaged 10.2 ppg and nearly five (4.9) rebounds a game.
Delaney Garrow (3.5 rebounds per game) and Kiera Gensler have also departed.
The Streaks posted a 4-3 mark in the NWOAL a year ago, good enough for third in the league. They are hoping to improve that standing, however, the league will do them no favors.
“The NWOAL should be competitive as always. Our league has a lot good players returning and good coaches,” Coach Ziegler said.
