OBETZ — Wauseon’s Hunter Wasnich and Grace Rhoades earned top 25 finishes at the OHSAA State Cross Country Championships held at Fortress Obetz Saturday.
In the Division II boys race, Wasnich came in at 23rd with a time of 16:19.6. It was a much better showing than a year ago when he was 51st (16:56.3).
Aidan Pena took 41st for the Indians and ran the race in 16:37. He was 86th (17:21.2) in 2020.
For Rhoades in the D-II girls race, she placed 25th with a time of 19:06.9. A year ago she was 16th (19:00.2).
The best finish in the area out of the D-III girls race was Josilyn Welch of Delta at 51st. She ran the race in 19:52.5.
Grace Remington of Pettisville took 78th with a time of 20:21.6. Fayette’s Leslie Burrow was 80th (20:22.7).
The Liberty Center girls collectively posted a score of 108 to take runner-up as a team. Minster won with a score of 66.
Leading the Tigers was Hope Oelkrug who finished fourth (18:24.8). In addition, MaKayla Meller was 14th (18:56.5) and Gracie Miller 15th (18:58.2).
