Cooper Tenney’s first half hat trick and four goals for the game aided Delta in their 11-2 defeat of Swanton on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Thomas Krupitzer Field.
The Panthers opened the scoring as Nolan Risner recorded the first of his two assists, getting it to Bryce Gillen for the finish and a 1-0 lead. They made it 2-0 with 29 minutes left in the half on Tenney’s goal.
Then with 20 minutes remaining, Carson Chiesa fed Tenney who put away another. Tenney got his hat trick at the 14 minute mark, when he finished a breakaway opportunity to make it a 4-0 advantage.
Seven minutes later the Bulldogs got on the board and the Panthers took a three-goal lead into intermission.
Delta resumed its scoring barrage not even three minutes into the second half. AJ Matthews booted a ball up to Tenney who scored for the fourth time.
Around the 31 minute mark of the half, the Panthers’ Shane Kruger and Tenney had quality looks at the net but they were stopped by Swanton goalkeeper Nick Meisner.
However, they made it 6-1 with 27:47 left as Risner fed to the middle for Kruger who scored. The Dogs trimmed the deficit back to four (6-2) 59 seconds later on a goal by Hayden Callicotte.
But, less than a minute after Callicotte’s goal, Risner tallied his lone goal of the game to make it 7-2.
Closing out the scoring for the Panthers were Kaleb Sutton with a penalty kick, Vinnie Maurer, Borna Mandic, and Sam Mohring.
Risner had two assists for the game, while Chiesa, Eli Mora, Matthews, Mohring and Gabe Cansky each added one.
Delta then picked up a non-league win at Toledo Christian on Thursday, 1-0. Risner scored the goal while Cooper Tenney picked up the assist.
The victories got the Panthers to 7-0 on the season and 3-0 against Northwest Ohio Athletic League opponents. Their next league game is at home versus Archbold on Tuesday.
Swanton fell 8-0 at home against Lake on Saturday. The Dogs (1-8, 0-3) travel to Northwood this Thursday.
