MONTPELIER – The Wauseon boys basketball team closed the regular season with a 67-36 rout of Montpelier Friday night.
Coupled with Archbold’s 67-54 loss at Bryan, the Indians were able to grab a share of the NWOAL crown as both finished 7-1 in league play.
“I thought we played well on both ends of the floor from the opening tip. Montpelier has very talented guards, and we did a nice job of containing them,” said Wauseon coach Chad Burt of the win.
“It was a nice way to cap the league season and earn a share of the league title. We are looking forward to the tournament and hope that we can keep playing well and make a solid tournament run.”
Austin Rotroff shot 80 percent (8 of 10) from the floor to pace Wauseon with 18 points. The sophomore also grabbed eight rebounds and had a pair of blocks.
Chase Brock added 11 points for the Indians while Carter Bzovi notched six.
Wauseon (19-3) is in action on Friday in the Division II sectional tournament at Lake High School where they will face the winner of Woodward and Maumee for the sectional championship.
