The Wauseon wrestling team won a pair of matches to advance out of the Division II, Region 9 quarterfinal of the state dual tournament which they hosted on Wednesday.

The Indians first defeated Bowling Green by a final of 51-16, and after a victory for Elida over Toledo Central Catholic, they took down Elida 56-14.

“I was very happy with our performance tonight,” said Wauseon coach Mike Ritter. “We’ve really been hit with the injury bug the last several weeks, and we were without two starters tonight. Even without those two starters, our kids really picked it up.”

Against the Bobcats, Gavin Ritter at 106 pounds, McKayla Campbell (113), Hunter Yackee (132) and Tony Banister (220) all got pins for Wauseon. Also, Sandro Ramirez (145) and Tre Campbell (182) got technical fall victories.

Getting pins in the dual with Elida was Yackee at 132 pounds and Andrew Bailey at 138 pounds. Derek Schuette (160) and Tre Campbell (182) each won by technical fall.

With major decisions were Ritter (106), Ramirez (145), Trent Davis (152) and Aaron Harris (170).

Wauseon hopes to stay alive for a state dual title when they travel to Sandusky Perkins tomorrow for the D-II regional semifinal. The Indians begin with a match against Napoleon at 5 p.m., with the winner taking on either Bellevue or Perkins for the title.

In an NWOAL quad at Montpelier Thursday, the Indians picked up two more league wins as they defeated Montpelier 53-21 and Patrick Henry 58-12.
