Delta, Wauseon perform well at Maumee Bay wrestling tournament

OREGON, OH – A pair of county teams showed off their skills at the Maumee Bay Classic wrestling tournament over the weekend at Clay High School as Delta placed first with 228.5 points and Wauseon was second with 185.5.

Jesse Beverly was Delta’s lone champion at the event, winning the 152-pound title with an 11-3 major decision over Lane Hinkle of Mt. Vernon.

The Panthers also got runner-up performances from Jake Spiess (132), Devon Richard (220) and Chance Veller (285). Cole Mattin at 106 pounds and Drew Mattin at 120 both finished third for the Panthers.

For Wauseon, Tre Campbell (182) won their first title when he garnered a 13-1 major decision over Lorain’s Aaron Huff. They also got a championship from Tony Banister (195) who edged Dylan Thorp of Oak Harbor with a 2-1 decision.

Derek Schuette (160) took second for the Indians, while Hunter Yackee (132) and Sandro Ramirez (145) each finished third.
