Wauseon hosted Swanton, Evergreen and Liberty Center in a wrestling quad on Thursday as both the Indians and Bulldogs went 2-0.
Wauseon defeated Liberty Center 62-9 and Evergreen 75-6, while Swanton bested Evergreen 70-5 and Liberty Center 63-12.
The Indians took an early lead on the Tigers with technical fall victories from Gavin Ritter at 106 pounds and McKayla Campbell at 120 pounds. Zane Peterson (113) got Liberty Center some points as he picked up a 4-2 decision.
However, Wauseon’s only other blemish the rest of the way was a forfeit at 220 pounds, giving the win to Robert Sanchez of Liberty Center.
Gage Campbell (126) won by decision for Wauseon, Hunter Yackee (132) earned a victory by technical fall, and Andrew Bailey (138) by decision. Wauseon then got pins from Xavier Torres (145), Sandro Ramirez (152), Derek Schuette (160), Brady Neifer (170) and Alex Sosa (285).
The Indians got a tech fall victory from Tre Campbell at 182 pounds, and also scored a forfeit at 195.
Wauseon started their second round match against Evergreen at 113 pounds where Alex Slattman pinned the Vikings’ Travis Mersing in 58 seconds.
Also earning pins for the Indians were Gage Campbell (126) over Evergreen’s Tony Boger, Torres (145) over Tom Pollard, Ramirez (152) over Isaac Yunker, Schuette (160) against Trey Malosh, Tre Campbell (195) over Jace Jenkins and Banister (220) over Nate Krohn.
The two squads rounded out their dual in a hard-fought match at 106 pounds where a late takedown by Ritter gave him an 11-9 win against Evergreen’s Jared Fahrer.
Evergreen’s Mason Kasefang garnered a victory by pin in 4:59 against Bailey at 138 pounds.
In their match against Swanton, Evergreen opened with a 17-2 tech fall victory for Jared Fahrer over Swanton’s Zack Schaller. However, the Vikings failed to win a match throughout the rest of the dual.
Swanton got on the board at 113 pounds when Trevor Schaller defeated Mersing by major decision, 13-5.
Getting pins for the Bulldogs were Ryan Marvin (126) over Boger, Zack Leahey (145) over Pollard, Tyler Houston (152) over Yunker, Mitchell Reisinger (160) against Malosh and Branson Knott (220) over Krohn. Noah Saunders (138) added a 10-4 decision against Kasefang, while Greg Wilson (195) won 9-2 against Jenkins.
The Dogs also garnered five forfeits in their win over the Vikings.
Swanton had a total of eight pins in their 51-point thrashing of Liberty Center. Picking up pins were Zack Schaller (106), Trevor Schaller (113), Dylan Cook (120), J.D. Reisinger (132), Leahey (145), Houston (152), Mitchell Reisinger (160) and Parker Cash (170).
Earning decisions for the Dogs were Marvin, Saunders and heavyweight Tommy Lytle. Swanton also earned points with an Evergreen forfeit at 195 pounds.
