WEST UNITY – A pair of local teams took home league championships at the Buckeye Border Conference Cross Country Meet at Hilltop this past Saturday.
Fayette won the boys title, while Pettisville won the girls meet. The Fayette girls were runner-up and in the boys meet, Pettisville finished third behind Stryker.
In the boys race, the Eagles had three place in the top 10. Brett Merillat was runner-up with a time of 17:13, Elijah Lerma took fifth with a time of 17:55, and Quinn Mitchell seventh at 18:07.
Rounding out scoring for the Eagles was Caden Colegrove who placed 15th (18:40) and Tyrese Pearson who took 17th (19:01).
Logan Rufenacht won the overall race for Pettisville, finishing with a time of 16:59. Calvin Nofziger was ninth (18:26) for the Blackbirds, Caleb Nolander took 16th (18:46), Mitchell Avina 22nd (19:30) and Josh Basselman 44th (22:18).
Pettisville’s best five finished in the top 20 in the girls race. Leading the way was Kate Stuber who won with a time of 20:29.
Next was Morgan Leppelmeier who finished fourth (21:22), Sarah Foor took fifth (21:25), Kelly Miller seventh (21:51) and Ava Hoylman 16th (23:38).
The Fayette girls had three in the top 10 as Chloe Merillat was third (21:19), Amber Gaona sixth (21:27), and Jillian Figgins 10th (22:43). In addition, Miah Beauregard came in at 18th (23:58) and Emma Leininger 20th (24:08).
Both Fayette and Pettisville will next be at the Division III district meet this Saturday at the Findlay Campus of Owens Community College.
