Behind four second half scores, Archbold overcame a narrow seven point halftime deficit to defeat visiting Hicksville 24-7 in the season opener Friday.
The Aces grabbed the lead in the second quarter on a 20-yard pass from Jacob Miller to Parker Thiel and Elias Delagrange’s extra point.
However, head coach David Dominique’s pep talk at the half must have worked as the Bluestreaks responded with 24 second half points.
Their scoring included a pair of touchdown passes from Brandon Taylor to Antonio Cruz. Elijah Zimmerman added a 27-yard field goal, while Izrael Reyes had a rushing TD for the Streaks. Zimmerman was 1 of 2 on extra points.
Taylor completed 8 of 15 passes for 85 yards and the two TDs to Cruz. Noah Gomez was the leading rusher for the Streaks, finishing with 138 yards on 17 carries. Reyes added 47 yards and a TD on seven carries.
Miller completed 13 of 20 passes for 123 yard, one TD and a pick.
Archbold now travels to Liberty-Benton this Friday.
