Pettisville volleyball will look to repeat as Buckeye Border Conference champions this season. They return four letter winners, including a pair who received all-league honors, from a team that last season went 16-8 and won the BBC with a 12-0 mark.

“We want to improve everyday and take the season one match at a time,” said head coach John Horning. “We should be competitive in all our matches and hope to be playing our best ball at the end of the season.”

Returning for the Blackbirds are Morgan Leppelmeier (first team All-BBC), Mauricea Crouch (honorable mention All-BBC), Ryeanna Klopfenstein and Danielle King.

“Returning lettermen who have and will give great leadership,” said Horning on his team’s strengths for the season. “Hard working and desire to improve everyday.”

The Birds will have to replace three who received all-league honors in 2017. Those who departed are Jess Youse (BBC POY), Kyra Behnfeldt (first team All-BBC), and Kendal Pursel (honorable mention All-BBC). They also lose Sami Tilley.

“Players in new positions at the varsity level,” said Horning, speaking to the Birds’ potential weaknesses.

The Blackbird coach has a strong opinion of the BBC this season.

“I think our league will be competitive and I hope we bring our best effort every night,” he said.
