Wauseon golf aims to battle for league crown

Staff Report

Wauseon’s golf program has an excellent reputation, with 14 Northwest Ohio Athletic League titles to its name.

This season, with a list of returnees that includes a trio of honorable mention all-league performers, look for another strong season from the Indians.

They return six letter winners total. Eric Parker, Trent Armstrong, and Caleb Leu each were honorable mention all-league a season ago. Other returnees are Luke Wheeler, Dylan Grahn, and Jaxon Radabaugh.

“Last year, we finished third in the league behind Archbold and Bryan. With some young talent returning that has worked hard to get better over the summer along with some returning letter winners, we are looking to improve on last season,” said coach Mark Britsch, who enters his first season at the helm.

Andrew Scherer, a newcomer for the Indians, has a chance to contribute.

Wauseon will also be without CJ Moser, who was the gold medalist at the NWOAL Tournament last fall.

“Consistent play,” said Britsch of a potential weakness for his squad. “Many players are capable of putting up a competitive score, but can they do it on a consistent basis?”

The Indians, after finishing seventh at the Defiance Bulldog Invitational Monday, are at Auglaize Golf Club Thursday morning for the Paulding Panther Invitational.
