Basketball officials training course offered

The Fifth District Basketball Officials Association is offering two OHSAA approved basketball officiating courses to provide the opportunity for any adult or high school student interested in becoming an OHSAA certified basketball official.

A participant 18 years of age and no longer enrolled in high school will attain a Class 2 Permit and will be eligible to officiate all levels of contests other than high school varsity.

A high school student will attain a Class 3 permit and may officiate freshman or junior high games.

One class will have sessions held at the Defiance “Y,” 1599 Palmer Dr., Defiance, OH from 1-4:30 p.m. each Sunday Oct. 25, 2015 through Dec. 6, 2015.

The other class will have sessions held at a site to be determined in Antwerp, OH from 5:30–9 p.m. each Sunday Oct. 25, 2015 through Dec. 6, 2015.

Each class will also be required to attend meetings at Four County Career Center in Archbold from 6:30–8:30 p.m. on Nov. 2, 9 and 16.

Class fees will be $110.00. This covers all classroom materials, texts and registration fees with the OHSAA.

Anyone interested in taking this class to become an OHSAA registered basketball official, or needing more information or help in registering should contact Ned Ewers at [email protected] or (419) 439-6047.
