The Wauseon and Archbold tennis teams did battle on Monday at Wauseon. It was the second time the two squads have met this season.
Although the Blue Streaks were victorious on Aug. 27 at Archbold, 3-2, Wauseon returned the favor Monday, also with a 3-2 victory. The Indians won by sweeping the singles portion of the competition.
Winning in first singles was Autumn Dominique over Archbold’s Darby Stevens, 6-2, 6-2. In second singles, Mackenzie Eberly of Wauseon defeated Archbold’s Sara Bilen, 6-3, 6-0.
Third singles went three sets where Wauseon’s Paige Moden outlasted Archbold’s Isabel Krieger 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Archbold added doubles victories with first doubles, Emily Rose and Viviana Garcia defeated Wauseon’s Sarah Becker and Maddi Rice, 6-0, 6-0. In second doubles, the duo of Lydia Andres and Caroline Kinsman bested Wauseon’s Samantha Martin and Katelyn Sager 6-2, 6-0.
Both squads picked up wins on Tuesday as Wauseon won at home over Toledo Start, 5-0, and Archbold returned home to defeat Toledo Christian, 4-1. The Blue Streaks’ only blemish was in first singles.
Notably for Wauseon, Dominique in first singles and Moden in third each won in 6-0, 6-0 straight sets against the Lady Spartans.
Wauseon (9-9) closes the regular season at Sylvania Southview today and home against Napoleon on Saturday. Archbold (9-4) hosts Bluffton Saturday before traveling to Toledo Scott next Tuesday.
