Archbold Athletic Hall of Fame inductees named


The Archbold High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee has announced the 2018 class of inductees. The honorees include:

John Downey (Football Coach, 1979-2008). Downey won 222 games, had five unbeaten regular seasons, nine playoff appearances, and won the 1988 State Championship. He was twice named Ohio Coach of the Year.

Ed Grime (Class of ‘72). Grime was an outstanding left-handed pitcher. He had the amazing feat of throwing three no-hitters in a six day span. Grime spent several years in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

Curt Spotts (Class of ‘77). Spotts won 10 letters in three sports. He earned first team NWOAL honors in football, basketball, and baseball. Spotts was named to the All-Ohio team in 1977.

Roel Galvan (Class of ‘83). Galvan was a star running back on the 1982 state runner-up football team. He won 11 letters in three sports. Galvan won 109 wrestling matches and reached the state meet.

Chad Martz (Class of ‘90). Martz was the 152-pound state wrestling champion in 1990. He was a defensive end on the 1988 state championship football team. Martz was named second team All-Ohio.

Susan Pape White (Class of ‘94). Susan was named two-time first team All-Ohio pitcher. She threw 10 no-hitters and had a 0.67 ERA. Susan was voted third team All-Ohio in volleyball.

Meredith Neff Luther (Class of ‘97). Meredith earned 11 letters in three sports. Her teams had a 93-10 volleyball record, and Meredith was named first team All-Ohio.

Kacy Stevens Myers (Class of ‘99). Kacy was twice voted first team All-Ohio in volleyball. Her teams had a 108-6 record and won the 1998 state championship. Kacy was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Toledo.

Jill Evans Holdgreve (Class of ‘02). Jill was chosen first team All-Ohio in volleyball and third team All-Ohio in basketball. She played volleyball at Defiance College.

Donnie Young (Class of ‘02). Donnie won 15 letters in four sports. He placed twice at the state wrestling meet, and was a fourth place finisher in the 400 meter run at state.
