The Archbold girls soccer team had no trouble with Cardinal Stritch, dispatching the Cardinals 9-0 in a Division III sectional final at Spengler Field Wednesday afternoon.
“It’s tournament time and there is always going to be jitters,” Archbold assistant coach Jen Kidder said of the start of the postseason. “But I thought we started really strong.”
Emie Peterson led the Blue Streaks. She assisted on the first goal of the game, scored by Chloe Nofziger, which came just 40 seconds into the game. Peterson added a goal with 32:57 left to play in the first half, plus had two second-half goals to complete the hat trick.
Regan Ramirez and Kamryn Hostetler added a pair of goals each to lead the Archbold offense.
“We’re not a team that tries to run the score up on anybody,” mentioned Kidder. “We always respect our opponents but at the same time it’s tournament time and we need to be prepared. We’re not going to tell them to not play. We were also getting a lot of people in there (the game) and getting a lot of people some playing time.”
Andi Peterson also scored, with Emie Peterson hitting her with a great pass, to make the score 4-0 at the half.
“We connected on a lot of shots and had some beautiful passes,” added Kidder.
The Streaks (17-0) will now meet Huron (13-3-2) in a district semifinal Wednesday at Genoa in the second game of a doubleheader at 7 p.m.
“Wednesday will not be easy,” admitted Kidder. “Our record puts a target on our back.”
