BOWLING GREEN – A tough season for the Wauseon boys soccer team came to a close Monday when they fell at Bowling Green 6-0 in the Division II sectional semifinal.
The host Bobcats left nothing for chance, notching five of their six goals in the first half.
In the first 10 minutes, Bowling Green’s Ryland Black scored twice for a 2-0 lead.
Wauseon goalkeeper Easton Delgado tried to keep the Indians in it as he thwarted a pair of quality looks for the Bobcats at around the 25-minute mark. However, shortly after that BG went on a run where they scored three times in a minute.
With 20:54 left in the first half, Bowling Green’s Isaac Erdody banged home a Gabe Sayer corner kick to extend their lead to 3-0. Not even 30 seconds later Aidan Hassett scored, then at the 19:53 mark, Sayer scored with the help of a Noah LaPolt assist to make it 5-0.
Wauseon’s best chance of the half came from Keegan Waxler with just over five minutes remaining. He got past the Bobcat defense on the right side but keeper Sean O’Donnell deflected the shot.
The Indians’ Jameson Gray was awarded a free kick 2:37 into the second half that was on target, however, O’Donnell was there for the save.
Black then got his third goal of the game with 30:44 left to complete the scoring.
Wauseon ends the season with a 1-14-2 record.
