The Swanton Board of Education has planned two special meetings for this week. They will be Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the board office at 108 N. Main St.

The Tuesday meeting will include a vote on a resolution to add two more classrooms and storage space at the Crestwood school building. District officials first considered the additional two classrooms after a larger than expected number of children were registered to start kindergarten this fall. Another large class could leave the district short on space at the Crestwood building.

Storage space could also be an issue as students are moved from four buildings into three.

Approval of the change order for the additional space will cost the district an estimated $612,931. The district will still be under budget for the entire construction project even if the change is approved on Tuesday.

Starting this fall, Crestwood will be named Swanton Elementary School and house kindergarten through fourth grade students.

Also on the agenda is a vote on an administrative contract for Leigh Pancoast. Pancoast was on the July board meeting agenda to be approved as an assistant principal, but was removed from the agenda before a vote was taken.

She served as dean of students at Swanton Middle School last school year.

Wednesday’s meeting will consist mostly of an executive session to discuss employee employment, with possible action to follow.

The district is in the process of a superintendent search following the resignation of Jeff Schlade, effective July 31.
