A Fayette man is dead following a crash at the intersection of State Route 109 and U.S. 20 in Royalton Township early Wednesday morning. At approximately 5 a.m. The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the crash.
According to the Highway Patrol, a 2016 International Harvester tractor trailer driven by Roberto DeJesus Hernandez Jr, 30, of San Jacinto, Calif., was northbound on State Route 109 and attempted to turn left to go west on U.S. 20. The tractor trailer failed to yield right of way at the intersection and was struck by a 1995 Dodge tractor trailer. The Dodge was eastbound on U.S. 20. After striking, both vehicles came to rest in the intersection.
The driver of the 1995 Dodge, Naylen Kane Fonseca, 24, of Fayette, was trapped in the vehicle. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
He was extracted by Morenci Fire and EMS, Metamora Fire, and Lyons Royalton EMS.
Hernandez was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured from the crash.
The crash is still under investigation but alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The roadway has reopened. Fulton County Sheriff, ODOT, Fulton County EMS, Metamora Fire and EMS, Swanton Fire and EMS, Lyons Royalton Fire, Morenci Fire and EMS, and K and K Collison assisted the Highway Patrol at the scene.
