ARCHBOLD – If you love the four-part harmony of barbershop music, Sauder Village is the place to be on Saturday, Aug. 22 for the annual Barbershop Sing featuring the Alliance Chorus of Greater Central Ohio. In addition to enjoying an award-winning performance at 1 p.m. in Founders’ Hall, guests can also make special memories while visiting with costumed guides and working craftsmen at Ohio’s largest living-history destination.
The Sauder Village Barbershop Sing always features an award-winning barbershop group and this year is no exception. The Alliance Chorus of Greater Central Ohio is a men’s barbershop chorus formed in 1999 to promote the singing of four-part harmony. Members of the chorus span an age range of nine decades and are a very diverse group comprised of students, corporate executives, construction workers, doctors and a host of other occupations.
The range of ages and experiences creates a distinctive brotherhood rooted in harmony. The group has received many top honors including eleven top-ten international finishes, ten district chorus championships and has performed at many top venues throughout the region. The group has even performed at Radio City Music Hall in New York City for the Christmas Spectacular featuring the Rockettes.
According to the Barbershop Harmony Society, barbershop music grew out of African-American music traditions and can be described as four-part, unaccompanied, close harmony signing with consonant chords. Barbershop music has understandable lyrics and easy-to-sing melodies.
“Hosting a late summer barbershop music concert has been a tradition at Sauder Village for many years,” shared Kim Krieger, Media Relations Specialist. “We look forward to having The Alliance Chorus share their talent at Sauder Village. It’s sure to be a fun-filled afternoon as guests enjoy toe-tapping music and have fun experiencing Ohio’s historic past while exploring life in Ohio from 1803 through 1920!”
Other upcoming Sauder Village events in September include Defiance/Paulding Community Appreciation Day, Homeschool Appreciation Days, Preserving Our Memories, Celebrate our Artisans and Apple Butter Making Week.
