Wauseon Board approved 2017-18 school calendar

The Wauseon Board of Education approved on Tuesday the 2017-2018 school calendar. It includes a first day for students of Aug. 16 and a last day of May 24.

The calendar also includes a Christmas Vacation from Dec. 21 to Jan. 3 and Easter Vacation from March 26-30.

Commencement is currently slated for May 27.

Also at the meeting, the board approved multiple personnel items. Among them is the resignation of Mindy Cheney as Wauseon Middle School art teacher, effective at the end of this school year.

The board also accepted the resignation of Julie Shehorn as a three-hour cook at the middle school, effective Jan. 20.

The transfer of Shelley Grosjean from fifth grade math and science teacher to sixth grade math teacher was approved, effective next school year.

Several donations were approved by the board, including $508.42 from the Wauseon Athletic Boosters for swim team video equipment, draw string bags valued at approximately $450 from Tomahawk Wrestling Club to the Wauseon wrestling program, $400 from Northwest OASBO to the Wauseon High School A Capella Choir, $250 from Harlan and Luann Goertzen to the WES Food Pantry in honor of Brent and Steph King, and $250 from the Wauseon Indian Music Boosters to the WPS Music Department for a bass bar and basic beat mallet.

Multiple overnight trips were approved for the speech team. They are the NSDA National Qualifier Feb. 17-18, OHSSL State Finals on March 2-4, NSDA District Congress March 17-18, NCFL Speech Finals, May 25-29, and NSDA Speech Finals from June 17-23.
