Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Brett C. Hannum has been selected as the 2016 Trooper of the Year at the Swanton Post.
The selection Hannum, 34, is in recognition of outstanding service during 2016 at the Swanton post. Fellow officers at the post chose him based on leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude, and cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public.
Hannum is now in contention for the Findlay district and Ohio State Trooper of the Year Award, to be announced at a later date.
He joined the OSHP in 2011, and has served at the Swanton post for the past two years. He started his career at the Van Wert post, and has worked at both the Findlay and Bowling Green posts prior to being assigned to Swanton. Originally from Swanton, he is a graduate of Swanton High School and Owens Community College with an associate degree in criminal justice. Hannum previously served in the U.S.Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment, completing multiple tours of duty in Iraq.
He has also been awarded the State Highway Patrol Health and Physical Fitness Award, Safe Driving Award, and Military Service Award.
Hannum and his wife, Katherine, reside in Maumee with their two children, Karli and Evie.
