With the new year comes many activities for adults at the Swanton Public Library.
What Will 2017 Bring?
Well for starters, it will bring a return visit from Janet Amid, who’s been voted Toledo’s favorite astrologer. She’ll be returning to the Swanton Library to present her annual program on astrology and what to expect in 2017.
Attend on Thursday, Jan. 19 from 7-8 p.m. to learn what the future holds. Call the library to register or register online at www.swantonpubliclibrary.org/node/240
Cardmaking
The ongoing series of cardmaking classes starts up again in January with some wonderful cards expressing love. Instructor Anna Geis will lead the class from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26. A $5 supply fee covers 3 cards. Children 8 years and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Registration is required.
Intro to Guitar
Is learning to play guitar on your “someday” list? Come to the library on Thursday, Feb. 2 from 7-8 p.m. to get a brief, non-stressful introduction to the guitar from our own Adam Walter. This program is free but registration is required. Please bring a guitar if you have one.
Yoga Class Line-Up
Instructor Aimee Strohbeck’s yoga classes have attracted a loyal following since their inception. Again this month Aimee will offer four different classes. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and a towel and to wear comfortable, stretchy clothing.
Beginning Yoga will be offered on Mondays, Jan. 9, 23 and 30 from 10:15 – 11:45 a.m. There will be no class on Jan. 2 or 16 as the library will be closed. These sessions are slightly more advanced than those on Thursdays, providing students with an opportunity to expand their skill level. Class fee is $10 per session with multi-session tickets available.
Intro to Yoga will be offered on Thursdays, Jan. 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 10:15- 11:45 am. Class fee is by donation, with proceeds benefiting the library.
Chair Yoga involves the same poses done in a Hatha class, modified to make them gentler while sitting or sometimes standing with a chair for balance and support. Our chair yoga class will be held on Thursdays from 2-3 p.m. on Jan. 5, 12, 19, and 26. Class fee is $5. No mat is needed.
Evening Yoga meets on Monday evenings from 7 – 8:15 p.m.; ideal for those who are busy during the day. In January those dates are the 9, 23 and 30. There will be no class on Jan. 2 or 16. Class fee is $10 per session with multi-session classes available.
Knitters and Crocheters
During January knitters will meet on Mondays, Jan. 9 and 23 at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesdays, Jan. 11 and 25 at 6:30 p.m. This fun group, led by Kathy Queen, welcomes knitters and crocheters of all skill levels. It’s a great opportunity to learn new techniques and enjoy time with other fiber artists.
Chess
Have you always wanted to learn to play chess? Has it been years since you’ve played? Are you looking for a chess partner? Come join the chess group on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. or Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m. The group continues to expand: everyone welcome regardless of age or skill level.
