Two dead in apparent murder-suicide

Two people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide Tuesday in Wauseon.

The Wauseon Police Department has identified the victims as Jill C. Dorsey, 44, and Leonel A. Ayala, 41, both of Wauseon.

According to police reports, police were sent to a possible shooting at the corner of West Linfoot Street and Ottokee Street at approximately 6:25 p.m., Upon arrival, they saw a female shot in the chest next to her vehicle. She was transported to the Fulton County Health Center, where she died.

After searching the area, the suspected shooter was found dead at the corner of West Linfoot Street and Zenobia Street with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Assistant Police Chief Bill McConnell said the incident occurred as Dorsey was stopped at a traffic light, with Ayala as her passenger. After shooting Dorsey, Ayala exited the vehicle and shot at the vehicle behind them in traffic. The bullet deflected off the windshield of the vehicle. No one was injured.

McConnell said the shooter and his victim were acquaintances. They did not live together.

The Lucas County Coroner James Patrick will conduct autopsies on both individuals. The shootings remain under investigation.
