Santa is coming to the Ronald McDonald House. On Saturday from 1-3 p.m., Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Ohio will be having “Santa’s Workshop” for any family that has stayed at the house in the past. Invitations were sent to all families that stayed there in 2016. The event is free to the families.
Santa will be there to take pictures with the children, and his elves will be on hand to do crafts. There will be a mini-concert by the Toledo School for the Arts, cookie decorating and a small gift for the children.
“This is just one of the many events that our staff and volunteers have put together for our families,” says Christine Cook, Director of Development. “Our house is full for the holidays with families that have a child in the hospital. Most of the time, the families have another child or children staying with us. We try to bring them a sense of normalcy and support while they are here.”
The new Ronald McDonald House offers 22 rooms and much needed community spaces for the families of children receiving medical care in any of the area’s medical facilities. It has the capacity to be 28 rooms in the future. It has a large dining room and kitchen area where guests can fix meals, as well as a large commercial kitchen that is used by volunteers to prepare dinners. There is an indoor play area, as well as an outdoor play area for children. Over 550 families from Northwest Ohio and beyond will stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Toledo this year.
Research shows that having their parent near them will help a child recover from illness more quickly. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Ohio is committed to enriching the lives of children by providing comfort, care, and support to families in Northwest Ohio, Southeast Michigan, and beyond. Room and board is free for families, with the average stay being 9 days. Ronald McDonald House is funded by donations from businesses and individuals in Northwest Ohio.
