Wauseon FFA has winning first quarter

The Wauseon FFA Chapter has earned numerous impressive accolades in local Career Development Event (CDE) competitions during the first quarter of the school year.

The Rural Soils CDE team of Everett Bueter, Conner Johnson (individual champion), Austin Schuette, and Mac Warncke went took first place at the District 1 competition, where 149 individuals making up 22 teams competed. The team placed 25th at the state competition.

Rural Soils CDE focuses on teaching students to evaluate land and soil and to make decisions when faced with soil-related issues that affect agricultural production. At the Fulton County competition, the team placed fourth.

The chapter’s team for Urban Soils CDE, where students evaluate land and soil to determine its potential use for urban, homesite, and other nonfarm uses, placed fourth at the county level. The team of Andrew Bailey, Katlyn DeGroff, Conner Klawon, Brady Neifer, Grant Suntken, and Gordie Winland placed 10th at the district tournament.

The focus of the Milk Quality and Products CDE is raw milk quality, federal milk marketing orders and attributes of selected milk products. The chapter’s team of Cory Johnson, Angel Juarez, Conner Klawon, Hunter Thourot (individual champion), Jordan Ward (second individually), Gordie Winland, and Beth Yackee (fourth individually) placed first in the District 1 competition. They will compete at the state competition in the spring.

Also representing the chapter in CDE action so far has been the Dairy Cattle Team and the Agronomic Systems team, both teams receiving high marks at the district competition.
