Family and friends will host a benefit for Jacob Sattler on Saturday, Sept. 24, 4-9 p.m. at Evergreen Middle School, 14544 County Road 6.
A 2000 graduate of Evergreen High School, Jacob underwent surgery Jan. 1 to remove a brain tumor. Five days later, he suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that resulted in a stroke. He remained in a coma on a respirator for two months, and spent five months undergoing intensive inpatient rehabilitation.
The trauma affected vision in his left eye, his memory, and his ability to sleep. He had to relearn to talk, eat, walk, and perform simple daily tasks.
In high school, Jacob played football and baseball. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Iraq Freedom Campaign, then drove a truck for Eagleview Logistics Corporation. He lives in Lyons with his wife, Amanda.
The benefit will include a spaghetti dinner, pulled pork, tacos, an ice cream bar, a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction and basket auction, and a cornhole tournament. All proceeds will go toward expenses for Jacob’s healing and rehabilitation.
