The latest expansion at Nature Fresh Farms in Delta is underway and is expected to created over 100 new jobs.
The project is a new 45-acre greenhouse operation next to the current facilities near the intersection of U.S. 20A near State Route 109. It is anticipated the expansion project will be completed by fall of 2023.
“This expansion will bring our total greenhouse acreage in Delta to 90 acres,” said Matt Quiring, senior vice president, sales and marketing at Nature Fresh Farms. “It is our plan to fill all 45 acres with organically grown strawberry plants.”
And with the expansion will come new jobs in Fulton County. Quiring said the company is planning to hire over 120 new employees once the expansion project is complete.
Consumer desire helped lead to the expansion.
“Consumers are continually seeking out stronger flavor offerings in all fresh categories,” said Quiring. “There were growing requests from retailers for a reliable source of organically grown strawberries that don’t compromise on flavor or freshness and grown sustainably and closer to the source.”
He added, “By growing our organic strawberries in a high-tech greenhouse in a central region within the US market, we can accomplish all this and more.”
And for those looking to find Delta grown products in stores, Quiring said the tomatoes will be sold in area Kroger locations beginning in April 2023. The nearest Kroger to Delta is in Swanton.
“Consumers will see them in Kroger’s private label brand – Private Selections for snacking tomatoes and the Nature Fresh Farms brand for TOV (tomatoes on the vine) and Beefsteak tomatoes. All will feature ‘Ohio Proud’ on the label,” he said.
The company hopes the organic strawberries grown in Delta will be available at the same locations by next fall.
