A large annexation of property to the Village of Delta could be on the horizon.
A petition was filed May 16 to annex a total of 541 acres into the Village of Delta, Village Administrator Brad Peebles said at the most recent Delta Council meeting. The area is designated as the village’s 20-year growth area.
On U.S. 20A, the land included in the petition for annexation includes Nature Fresh Farms owned property west of their current buildings and another parcel that would take the annexation all the way to County Road 10. North of that a 40-acre parcel and a 75-acre parcel with frontage on County Road H are included.
North of County Road H in that area much of the land, with the exception of the Izaak Walton property and their pond, is included, according to Peebles.
East of State Route 109, the land around the pond near the corner with County Road H is also included. Peebles said the electric substation is not included.
South of Airport Highway, adjacent to the railroad track, there is a 111-acre parcel that is part of the annexation petition. A neighboring 50-acre parcel is also included.
“Plan Commission has met,” Peebles said at the meeting. “They are aware that they are going to be required to make a recommendation as far as the zoning of these new lands. Right now the discussion would center around predominately industrial with the exception of everything north of County Road H being an M-3.”
The M-3 zoning would allow commercial, light industrial and residential.
Council on May 16 approved first readings of ordinances approving the annexation and indicating they will provide utilities and other services to the area. Third readings would have to be passed as emergency ordinances to meet a deadline.
Fulton County Commissioners have set July 21 as a hearing date for the annexation.
“I exepect at the end of the day the process is going to take between 3 to 4 months,” said Peebles. “I would envision that we will probably see this back for final approval from the village in probably September or October time frame.”
