The Swanton Public Library has announced its adult programs for the month of June.
The selection for this month’s Adult Book Club meeeting is “The Women of the Copper Country.” The book takes readers to mining country in the 1910s.
Join the SPL Book Club in reading about Annie’s exploits as she leads her community in a strike against poor work conditions and even poorer wages. Copies of this month book are limited. So, stop in and pick up your copy of “The Women of the Copper Country” and join Marty and the book club on Thursday, June 9 at 5:30 p.m.
Are you mechanically or technologically minded? Are you interested in robots? Do you want to be interested in robots? Look no further! The Swanton Public Library will play host to local robotics hobbyists as they create and socialize this summer.
New to robotics and still interested? No worries! The Swanton Area Robotics Club is open to everyone both new and experienced. This program is open to everyone age 17+ and is free to attend. No registration required.
Seam-Rippers Sewing Club
Do you have some free time in the mornings and want to brush up on your sewing skills? Do you have some sewing projects and just want a little company while you work? Lucky for you, the Seam Rippers are back this month — June 15 at 10:30 a.m.
No registration is required and walk-ins are encouraged. Packed lunches are welcome and encouraged. All you need is yourself and your newest sewing project.
Senior sssistance with Val Edwards
Fulton County residents aged 60 and older can find help with their most difficult Medicare and Social Security questions, along with other financial and health problems, like insurance, assistance programs, applications and more.
Edwards will be visiting the Swanton Public Library on Thursday, June 16 from 10 a.m. to noon. To make an appointment, call Edwards at 419-337-9299.
In keeping with the library’s Summer Reading Program theme, Oceans of Possibilities, local card making expert Anna Geis will teach this month’s class how to make three cards on a beachy theme. It is June 16 at 5:30 p.m.
Class fee is $8 per person, but all supplies are provided.
Online Book Club
In honor of our Summer Reading Club theme, librarians have picked a book that features an epic journey.. June’s title is “The Map of Salt and Stars,” by Zeyn Joukhadar. In this book, follow Nour as she and her family attempt to grieve for their father, taken suddenly from them by cancer. When her mother moves them back to her home country of Syria, they’re confronted by more grief in the form of Syria’s ongoing civil war.
Stop in to grab your Online Book Club kit and follow the directions inside to join. Kkits are limited.
Recurring monthly programs
Chess Club is officially back and open to beginners and seasoned chess players alike, and meets in the library every Wednesday at 5 p.m.
The Swanton Historical Society will meet every Friday in June at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in joining or volunteering with the Historical Society is encouraged to attend.
The local Writers Group will meet Thursdays the 2nd, 16th, and 30th at 5:30 p.m. and writers of all skill levels are encouraged to stop in.
Local knitters are back again from 5-6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays the 8th and 22nd. Fiber artists of all levels are invited to join—spinners, weavers and crocheters also invited.
