A long-time Swanton skilled nursing and assisted living facility is changing hands, after more than 35 years as a local, family-owned business.
Swanton Health Care and Retirement Center is being sold to Embassy Healthcare, which is based in Beachwood, Ohio. Embassy Healthcare has locations in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida.
The sale is effective Dec. 15.
“We have been actively seeking an exit strategy for several years and finally found the right opportunity and time to partner with the right buyer,” said Lisa Mitchell, company president. “While this will involve an adjustment for our patients, their families, and employees, we are certain this will be a smooth transition for everyone involved. We value our patients, their families and our employees and thank them for their dedication and trust in us all these years.”

The 68-bed skilled nursing and 16-bed assisted living facility opened in 1985 after its founding by Cecil Mitchell. His children, Lisa and Scott, purchased the family-owned business in 1994. Swanton Health Care and Retirement Center provides skilled nursing care, long-term care, rehabilitation, assisted living, and respite care. The business has also provided baked goods and catering services for the greater community, as well as outpatient therapy.
