Wauseon Board of Education holds workaday session

The Wauseon school board held a workaday session Sept. 10 that included personnel assignments.

The meeting began with passage of a motion to approve a bid waiver to replace the boiler at the elementary/middle school building. Superintendent Troy Armstrong said the replacement was of urgent necessity.

Board members also approved the following donations: $6,750 from Dynamix to cover the school district’s additions to the FMX subscription from Fiscal Year 2021 and the entirety of Fiscal Year 2022; an endless rope trainer from the Tomahawk Wrestling Club to Wauseon athletes, valued at $1,174.39; and $50 from the middle school staff to the Wauseon Athletic Department to honor the late Joe Newlove.

In personnel matters, the board members approved: the Rachel Wixey and Associates substitute list as presented; amended school board agenda minutes to reflect a change on the approved salary schedule for Rebecca Cales and Rachel Nagy, and a change to full-day compensation for Heather Voyer from $149 to $210; the resignations of Tara Tedrow as middle school teacher’s aide, Karron Booth as middle school sweeper, and Dylan Nicely as junior high wrestling coach; Jodi Sauber as cafe trainer for up to 10 days at her hourly contract rate; a one-year limited certificated contract to Patti Speck as a speech language pathologist; one-year limited classified contracts to Mackenzie Parker as a middle school teacher aide and to Rosemary Bost as high school three-hour cook, both pending background checks; the transfer of Linda Rufenacht from middle school three-hour cook to two-hour cook; Robert Shaw and Kenzie Stickley as substitute bus drivers.

They also approved a one-year limited certificated supplemental contract to Ashley Oyer as junior varsity boys basketball coach; a one-year limited outside supplemental contract to Sarah Meyers as varsity assistant girls basketball coach, pending a clean background check; a one-year limited certificated supplemental contract to Terri Jo Hamilton as seventh grade girls basketball coach, pending a Pupil Activity Permit; a one-year outside supplemental contract to Aaron Harris as junior high wrestling coach; Ray Martinez as volunteer boys basketball coach; Lucas Ankney as marching band volunteer; Ella Albright, Carson Burt, Grace Calvin, Andrew Eberle, Marie Hutchinson, and Mason Thomas as Athletic Department student workers; Casey Elson and Tracy Elson as Athletic Department adult workers; and Ashley Freestone as a student pool worker.

The board also passed motions to approve: the 2021-22 agreement between the school district and the Northwest Ohio Juvenile Detention, Training and Rehabilitation Center at $79 and $85, respectively, per student days; modifications and supplemental modifications to the Fiscal Year 2022 permanent appropriations and Certificate of Estimated Resources; a transfer from ESSER III-ARP to the Energy Project Fund of $1,293,362.94; a “then and now” certificate for $335,335 to Advanced Concepts Inc. for the primary school roof.
