Ag events slated in March

The Ohio State University Extension and Fulton County are holding joint events in March.

They will host a Corn College Workshop on Tuesday, March 8, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Robert Fulton Ag Center in Wauseon.

The focus will be corn agronomic practices that optimize profitability, integrating cover crops into the corn rotation, disease management, local on farm research results, and corn marketing for 2016. Presenters are Extension state specialists, county educators, and Mike Knueven from POET Bio-refining, and target participants are farmers and crop consultants.

The workshop will provide five hours of certified crop advisor continuing education units in crop management, integrated pest management, professional development, and soil/water management, as well as one hour of commercial pesticide applicator credit in categories 2A and 2D.

The cost is $50 per person, due with a pre-registration form by March 1. Registration includes lunch and materials. A complete agenda and registration form can be found at fulton.osu.edu under “County News” or by stopping at the OSU Extension Office at the Robert Fulton Ag Center, 8770 State Route 108, in Wauseon.

The Extension and county also will host a combined three-hour private applicator recertification and a two-hour Ohio Fertilizer Applicator Certification and Training session March 1, from 9:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m., and resuming from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Junior Fair Building at the Fulton County Fairgrounds.

The event is for those who already have a private applicator license and apply fertilizer on 50 or more acres of farmland. Pre-registration is $35, and must be postmarked by Feb. 23; the cost later is $50 including at the door.
