Old Man Winter returned to the area this week, bringing snow, wind, and cold temperatures. After a basically snowless December, area residents were snapped back to reality the second full week of January.

Schools throughout the county were closed on Tuesday with delays on Monday and Wednesday. The snow was relatively light, but windy temperatures made driving difficult in the rural areas especially. Also making things difficult was the rain that proceeded the snow and the icy coating it left on surfaces after temperatures dropped.

Following about 1.5 inches of snow on Sunday, another 2.5 inches fell late Monday into Tuesday. Some areas received a bit more than the official totals.

The temperature dropped to 5 degrees Wednesday morning at the Fulton County Airport with wind chills falling below zero.

Following a brief warm up Thursday and Friday, meteorologists at the National Weather Service expect temperatures to fall again early next week.
