A Delta businessman plans to roll out a reality show this fall that will showcase entertaining challenges while highlighting northwest Ohio.
Brandon Johnson, owner of Team Johnson Limo, 4840 U.S. 20A, hopes to begin taping his brainchild, “Mega Matchmaker,” in five to six weeks. The show will transport 30 men and 30 women in the company’s double-decker Mega Lounge limousine bus to points across the region, where they will compete in challenges over 16 episodes until only two remain.
The challenges range from fun to daring including a dance-off, paintball, and sky-diving. Each week, viewers will vote contestants – who will range in age from 20s to 50s – off the bus as it travels to different hot spots. Destinations will include downtown Toledo, Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island in Lake Erie, and a location in Fulton County.
The ultimate winners receive a trip to Las Vegas in the Mega Lounge. The one-of-a-kind party vehicle features two bars, cocktail waitresses, a restroom, televisions, and a top that opens to the outside. The top and bottom of the bus glow with green light.
“This is going to be something cool and unique, and will highlight northwest Ohio,” Johnson said. “We want to show off Toledo and northwest Ohio to draw people to our area.”
The show will begin with 180 contestants over the first couple of episodes. Viewers will be encouraged to vote through Toledo City Paper for the 60 that ultimately get to ride the Mega Lounge through the series.
Thus far, 130 people have applied, answering ads through 92.5-KISS FM in Toledo and through the Johnson Limo Facebook page. Sign-up at teamjohnsonlimo.com ends next week.
“Mega Matchmaker” will air this fall on Fridays at 9:30 p.m. on WNWO- NBC 24 in Toledo, and online. It will be hosted by Pat McCarthy, also known as “The Guy in the 419,” who covers area events for social media.
The goal of the show is “to make northwest Ohio look different from other places,” said Johnson, who wants to involve businesses within the 16 networking organizations he’s a member of. “It’s basically, we’re all pulling together as one big team, to do something that no other region has done.”
If the reality show proves successful, it may have a second season. A primary goal, however, is to sell the show or its concept to a television network.
Johnson said some details are still being worked out, but “Mega Matchmaker” already has a handful of sponsors and will be ready for fall. He said the parties involved are excited to present entertainment that will highlight Fulton County and beyond.
“Let’s come together and make it something epic,” Johnson said.
